Chapter 12: Trapped

Paralee looked at the map and realized that she needed to go to Dry Dry Desert. “That hot blazing place?” Paralee said to herself.Paralee remembered when she was nine she nearly died from a heat stroke. Ever since then the postmaster decided not to let her deliver mail anywhere except Toad Town, the Koopa village, and the Goomba village until she was thirteen.

Paralee shuddered from the painful memory. Albino whimpered. “It’s all right, boy, I’m okay,” Paralee said, rubbing his head. She used her magic to change her skirt to shorts, her shirt into a thin mini top and a light leather vest, and gave Albino a straw hat. He looked at Paralee like she was crazy. “We’re heading where it’s really hot,” she said using her magic to lead them to Mt. Rugged.

They climbed up a steep cliff, and saw an adorable Whacka. Paralee had never eaten a Whacka’s Bump before and had heard that they were delicious, but she couldn’t bring herself to hit it. So she decided to leave it alone. They went out in the desert, where the heat was intense. Paralee took off her helmet and her hair drooped down, partially wet. Then quick as a flash a Bandit ran past Paralee and took her necklace. Paralee took her bow and arrow and shot the Bandit, causing it to lose 5 HP and become stunned. She walked up to the Bandit and got on her knees.

“Just give me the necklace, and I’ll have mercy on you,” she said in a friendly tone. The Bandit kicked Paralee but Paralee tackled him before he got the chance to get away. “Look, all I want is the necklace…” Soon Albino barked at the Bandit, noticing that he had a Crystal in his pocket. Paralee snatched the necklace and found a light blue Crystal.

“Where did you get this?” Paralee asked.

“Lady, you got your necklace, so just go,” the Bandit said.

Paralee sunk her claws into the Bandit’s neck. “Yeah, I forgot to take a manicure today, so if you don’t fess up I’ll just sink my claws deeper into your skin, like that?” Paralee said with a smile.

“A-all right, I got it from the Queen’s Tomb,” the Bandit explained. Paralee immediately let go of the Bandit’s neck.

“Queen’s Tomb? What is that?” Paralee asked.

“I told you where it was, so bye!” the Bandit said, running off. Immediately Albino ran after the Bandit and pinned him down.

“Sorry about Albino, but he doesn’t like people who disrespect me. So again, where is it?” Paralee asked.

“It’s located in the middle of the desert,” the Bandit explained. Albino let the Bandit go and came toward Paralee, who was thinking about the Bandit’s information.

“Albino, I know you know magic, right?” she asked. Albino nodded. “Well since it’s so hot, can you take us to Dry Dry Outpost?” she asked. Albino spun around Paralee, and they were in the town in seconds. “Good boy,” Paralee said tossing him a lime from the stand.

They saw a black female Mouser sniffing her. “You smell like her, but are you?” she asked.

“Am I what?” Paralee asked.

“The Magicparatroopa,” the Mouser asked.

“Yes,” Paralee answered.

“Come with me,” the Mouser said, hopping from building to building. Paralee flew to the top, where the Mouser was going through a basket. She pulled out a mini purple silky skirt with gold chains dangling from it. “If you wear this while dancing and singing it’ll distract any enemy… well, that’s if it’s a male. It’ll also help you find the Queen’s Tomb- Ah… yes, that Bandit was nothing but a mere puppet I made with my power. To enter, drop that decoy of a Crystal at the entrance, but mark my warning, the Queen‘s Tomb is full of poisonous and dangerous creatures,” she explained.

Paralee accepted the challenge and went out into the Dry Dry Desert again. Albino jumped on Paralee and started licking her. “Did that lime get you hyped up? This isn’t the right time for play,” Paralee said, putting him down. She looked at her gift and decided to try it on. When she did all of her clothes turned into what an exotic belly dancer would wear and had lots of gold jewelry. “Woah,” Paralee said. She took the skirt off and her clothes went back to normal. “This is awesome,” she said.

Then she put the skirt back on and her clothes changed again and had the same amount of jewelry. The gold rocked to one side and started flashing. Paralee went to the direction her jewelry reacted to and saw a regular Egyptian tomb that looked abandoned. Her jewelry suddenly went crazy. Albino went behind Paralee and started to whimper. “Creepy, I know,” Paralee said quietly. “But not as creepy as the Forever Forest,” Paralee thought.

They slowly and quietly went inside the tomb and Paralee dropped the decoy. The place was cold and spider webs filled the corner of the walls. As they entered they heard the creepy voice of a female. Albino howled in fear. “Shhh…” Paralee hissed. Albino soon kept quiet.

Paralee found a stone shaped like a heart. When she picked up the stone, sand started to fill the room. Paralee got on her belly and slid on the sand that was leading to the next room. Paralee landed hard and didn’t see Albino anywhere. The room was so dark she couldn’t see, but could only hear the screeches of Swoopers and hoped that there weren’t Pokey Mummies. Soon she heard something in the sand. Paralee started digging and saw her Chain Chomp covered in sand. Paralee looked through her mailbag to see if there was a flashlight. Albino knew what she was looking for and turned into a flashlight himself. Paralee turned it on and saw carvings of shapes. She found the carving of a heart and put the stone inside her bag. “If I’m supposed to solve this I’m going to be circling around this tomb for hours and hours,” Paralee thought.

“Bark, bark!” went the flashlight. Paralee looked up and saw a treasure chest filled with gold. Paralee went into the room, very hesitant to touch the gold and knowing that she didn’t really need the money. But she was amazed by the rare jewelry that was in the chest as well. She picked up a ruby ring and put it on her finger. As soon as she put it on the doors suddenly trapped her inside. Albino, still as a flashlight, whimpered. Paralee looked around to see if she could find anything, but nothing happened so she decided to take off the ring, but she couldn’t get it off.

“Oh, when will this nightmare end?!” Paralee thought.
