More about Big Boo...
Games: Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario 64
 
Big Boo is, well, a plus-sized Boo, the ghosts that appear frequently in the Mario series.  Appearing first in SMW, it mainly had the same traits as Boo but only served as a secret miniboss in one level and could be defeated, when not transparent, by having blocks chucked at it.  (Some say this miniboss is a different character named Big Blue Boo, though.)  Big Boo also served as a boss in Yoshi's Safari.  Despite its large size in SMW, in YI it's only a little bigger than regular Boos, and not much trouble at all.  Big Boo would also appear in Kero Sewers of Mario RPG, oddly enough appearing long before Li'l Boo - was Square paying attention?  Big Boo also made noteable appearances in Big Boo's Haunt from Mario 64, where 3 would release Stars if pounded three times.

Despite being known for its size, Big Boo is far from the biggest of its species.  There's Bigger Boo from Yoshi's Island and Boolossus, the humongous collection of Boos from Luigi's Mansion.  And King Boo can apparently be quite large when he feels like it.
