More about Bullet Bill...
Games: Super Mario Bros. and many others

Bullet Bill is, well, a bullet shot out of cannons in just about all the platformers as well as some RPGs.  Usually featuring arms for no very great purpose, Bullet Bill doesn't seem to have any real life force of its own and can only travel in a straight line once shot, essentially acting as a faster Goomba or Koopa.  You'd think that Bullet Bill could be instantly fatal, but because he doesn't travel nearly as fast as a real bullet - or maybe just because of videogame logic whereby any injury is as bad as any other - Bullet Bill will not kill Mario automatically but will only cause a regular hit.  He can, however, be dangerous because, not only will its cannons shoot bullets repeatedly, creating an endless streams of foes, but they can also appear while Mario is already trying to deal with other enemies or jump over large pits.  One Bullet Bill was manufactured into a supped up boss in New Super Mario Bros. DS.  An enemy like this would be merely background material by rights, but Bullet Bill has appeared often enough, and caused enough anguish to fans of the series, to stamp his mark on the franchise as he is sure to continue appearing in main titles and spinoffs alike.
