More about Cackletta...
Games: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

Cackletta is the main villain from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.  At first glance she appears to be a witch, featuring green skin and riding a rocket-powered flying chair, but I think she may have vampire in her, considering her cape and her ability to summon bats, and everyone in the Beanbean Kingdom has green skin anyway.  That aforementioned kingdom is her domain of choice over which to cause terror, and while we’ve never seen her outside of Superstar Saga, I suspect she must have constantly plagued that kingdom, as she apparently was kept under surveillance as she enacted her plan to gain control of the Beanstar.  After going in disguise as the apparent ambassador from the Beanbean Kingdom, she and her minion Fawful stole Peach’s voice, the only thing that could awaken the wish-granting Beanstar.  But her plan was foiled!  First, Mario and Luigi killed her despite her ability to summon bolts of lightning, make phantoms of herself, and generate holes to flow through the floor, all after she used her shapeshifting ability to take the form of Lady Lima and fool the Mario Bros.  And even if she had not been killed, her plan would have been foiled since the voice she stole actually belonged to Birdo.

At this point Cackletta may not seem to be a very impressive villain, allowing herself to be both fooled and killed, but her legacy would not end there.  With help from Fawful, she possessed the body of Bowser, taking it over and creating Bowletta.  She captured Peach – her whole body this time – and ordered the Marios to retrieve the pieces of the Beanstar in exchange.  After Cackletta had the Beanstar in her grasp, she was tricked into giving Peach up and letting a stowaway, Luigi, onboard her ship, and he would go on to steal back the Beanstar.  But still Cackletta wouldn't be defeated; she took control of Bowser’s castle (the minions apparently not suspecting anything strange about Bowser) and set about decimating the Beanbean Kingdom.  I guess you don’t need wishes when you’ve got a lot of guns, huh?  It is at this stage when she would have her final showdown against Mario and Luigi.  After a fairly short and simple fight in her Bowletta form, Cackletta tricked the Marios with a bomb from behind, and consumed them.  Mario and Luigi somehow survived and stood in battle inside Bowser against Cackletta’s spirit.  But for many gamers, they must not have stood for long!  What a trick; the Marios start this part of the battle with 1 HP each, and Cackletta has high speed – they could be defeated without even getting a turn!  If you manage to survive long enough to use a healing item, things will start to look up, but you still must consistently dodge a variety of attacks including firesnakes, electric blasts, laser beams, spinning arms, rows of power orbs, freezing time, summoning Fawful’s ghost… all while trying to expose her heart, the only part of her that’s truly vulnerable. I consider this one of the hardest points of any Mario game.  But somehow Mario and Luigi did defeat her, and her spirit dissipated away.  Today she’s presumably dead, but like any good villain, she’s probably not.  I hope not, anyway – she is one of the characters I would most like to see again.

Cackletta sure likes to mess things up, doesn't she?  She was once the lowest ranked fighter in Roy's Sports Hall, with an inexplicable record of 0-4 plus an extra loss under the guise of Bowletta.  But in Season Nine she defeated no less lofty a fighter than Count Bleck, certainly no slouch, forcing me to remove some nice color commentary from this page about how such a strong character could have such a poor record.  Cackletta went on to get defeated the following week by Sports Hall elite Shadoo - which was only to be expected - and she could have easily disappeared back into the pages of Sports Hall history.  After all, her next match in Round Two was to be against Shadoo once more.  And Roy himself!  And the Dark Star too, just for good measure.  With a record of 1-5 despite her presumably immense power, Cackletta had no business surviving such a match for more than about five seconds.  So of course she won.  Yup.  And she also managed to come out on top the next battle over the Axem Rangers, then undefeated at 4-0.  Your guess as to how is as good as mine.  At this point Cackletta was on some kind of historic run, and in her next match, she finally looked like she could even be the favorite!  For the battle that could earn her an unlikely spot in Round Three was a rematch against Count Bleck, whom she had already defeated.  But finally, finally, reality caught up with the cackling witch, and she was defeated, eliminating her from the season.

Despite failing to complete the comeback, Cackletta turned heads in defeating some big names to increase her record from abyssmal to decent, plus as a powerful boss she deserves some consideration.  So though she had once been a prime example of a big name fighter who would surely not be in the Season Ten Tournament, Roy grudgingly selected her to stand in as a wildcard contender.  Cackletta rose to the occassion and fought hard, but her chances came crashing down around her as she was defeated by Bob-omb, and eliminated,
