Cheep Cheep is one of the original members of the Koopa Troop and probably the most iconic underwater foe, appearing in many underwater levels in most of the sidescrollers.  It is also frequently seen jumping endlessly out of the water in arcs, causing Mario trouble on land as well.  In fact, he's probably more dangerous in that capacity then when he's found swimming aimlessly.  Though it's seen frequently in the platformers, it's been largely overlooked in the RPGs and only appears in a few of them.  The most famous individual Cheep Cheep would have to be Sushi, a party member from Paper Mario.  There have been boss Cheep Cheeps in New Super Mario Bros. DS and Yoshi's Island DS, and its fearsome cousin is Boss Bass, who can devour Mario in a single gulp.
