More about Chef Torte...
Games: Super Mario RPG

Chef Torte is a pastry chef seen in Marrymore of Super Mario RPG.  Along with his apprentice, he is tasked with preparing the wedding cakes for the ceremonies held there.  Apparently he is not very good at this as the cake he made for Peach and Booster's wedding, lovely as it looked, came alive and started attacking the guests!  Of course, Torte was rushed to prepare for this impromptu wedding.  Perhaps the occurence can also be attributed to the fact that Mario may have stood on the cake as it was being prepared - an action for which Torte will deal the plumber a tongue lashing.  Torte also becomes upset when the wedding is to be cancelled after Mario arrives to break it up, as now no one will enjoy his creation.  He and his apprentice briefly attack Mario - and are invulnerable but also cause negligible damage - until they see their cake has come alive and run away.  But apparently Torte is not too tramautized by this and he can later be seen back in his kitchen, preparing for the next wedding.

By all rights this should have been the end of the story for Torte and he'd go down in Mario history as a largely insignificant character.  But he stands out in my mind because he was the title character of an excellent fan fiction series, The Good, The Bad, and The Torte, by an author named after this character.  Sadly the third entry in the series has not been completed, but I would encourage anyone to read the first two!

Chef Torte earned a couple wins way back in Season Three but had been cold since then until finally getting back into the win column in Season Nine, when he cooked up a strategy to defeat Croco.  But his recipe for success soured and he was toasted the following week by Count Bleck.  In Round Two he appeared to be toast before the jaws of Gloomtail, but he overcame his foe and took advantage of an early knockout of Eerie to win the match.  In his subsequent match it was all he could muster to try to keep up with Count Bleck and General Guy, however, as he was roasted and eliminated from the season.
