More about Croco...
Games: Super Mario RPG

Today the most famous crook throughout the Mario series would have to be Popple, but once upon a time, Croco was the only game in town.  This croc was a recurring character throughout Super Mario RPG before such a thing became a trend across some of Mario's other RPGs.  Croco first appeared after having stolen Mallow's Frog Coin, and the plumber and "frog" gave chase.  (Really Mario's should've just continued on and found one of the dozens of other Frog Coins throughout the rest of the game, but hey, where's the justice in that?)  After being forced to go through a whole other area, Mario and Mallow finally managed to corner Croco, but only after outrunning him a few times.  Then they fought - and I've got to say, relative to the level you're at, I consider Croco to be one of the toughest bosses in the game.  He throws items and bombs out of a sack he's got, and can pull out Mushrooms to heal himself.  He's the only boss I remember losing to other than the optional Culex.

When defeated, Croco drops the Frog Coin (and some guy's wallot), but don't count him out yet.  When Mario and Co. knock themselves out in the Moleville Mines after bouncing off a trampoline underground, Croco and his Crooks appear and rob the party blind!  Mario had to chase him down again and serve up a beating, which didn't seem as difficult the second time even though his stats must have been higher.  When defeated he drops, along with what he stole from Mario, a Bambino Bomb that can be used to blow a hole in the wall and proceed.

After this, Croco seems to go soft.  He can be found in Nimbus Land, but he doesn't fight; in fact all he manages to do is a drop a ring you can use to find hidden treasures.  Then in Bowser's Keep he reappears and has apparently decided to turn over a new leaf, as he sets up shop and sells items at not entirely unreasonable prices.  And, that's the last we've seen of him.  But surely he must still be scheming.  He probably hid some kind of tracking device in the equipment he sold so he can track Mario's movements.  The only thing you can trust about this guy, is you can't trust him at all!

Appearing only once before in being defeated by his partner in crime, Popple, Croco reappeared in Season Nine and impressively defeated proven winner Fawful.  But subsequent losses to Chef Torte and the Axem Rangers robbed him of his chance to continue, as he was eliminated from the season.
