I bet you wouldn't guess from his name that Doopliss belongs to the species of Duplighosts.  But this shapeshifter is a cut above the rest, even if he looks goofy wearing that party hat of his.  It's no joke when he takes someone form, as he literally takes - his subject can be stripped of his appearance, left as just a shadow, and the victim can even be left unable to use his own name.  In case this isn't bothersome enough, when Doopliss uses this ability to his fullest, his faceless victim cannot so much as scratch him - said victim can still use all his abilities but they're completely useless against Doopliss.  This is, until Doopliss' victim can guess the shapeshifter's name, at which point Doopliss becomes vulnerable.  But that's where Doopliss most bizarre ability comes in - yes, even more bizarre than what I've already stated.  When Doopliss used this trick to swindle Mario in the most elaborate identity theft ever, he also somehow, inexplicably, prevented Mario from saying the letter p, making it impossible for his name to be guessed until Mario was able to recover the letter.  Doopliss is unique to say the least.

After Doopliss' plan to turn the people of Twilight Town into pigs for no good reason was foiled, he joined up with Shadow Sirens Beldam and Marilyn and was suddenly all too happy to share his previously secret name with others.  But the partnership didn't work out and Doopliss ended up acting alongside Mario's partner Flurry and became a star of the stage by using his shapeshifting abilities to be able to portray many different characters.  Considered more mischievous than evil, today Doopliss is thought to remain at the Creepy Steeple but no longer poses a danger to the Twilighters.

Doopliss took at least one vacation away from the Steeple when he signed up for the Sports Hall in Season Five.  Things didn't start off well for the Duplighost and he could have easily lost to Iggy in the first week of the season, but his good luck prevailed.  In the second week that luck appeared to have run out when Doopliss was defeated by Tribal Guy, but Doopliss rose to the occassion by slogging his way through a crowded Round Two, ultimately reaching the finale, where he defeated Super Blooper for the title.  So now he gets to wear Roy's Cardboard Box - but couldn't Doopliss have made himself look like he was wearing that all along, anyway?

Though suffering the indignity of being bumped down from Rank 4 when Waluigi surged to the top in Season Nine, this setup Doopliss to enter the Season Ten Tournament with a matchup against the lowest ranked fighter not to have just found success in the wildcard rounds, Czar Dragon.  In what surely must have felt like a warmup to this season winner, Doopliss doused the flames of hope, and of Czar Dragon, quite readily.  His next opponent, the Underchomp, may present a greater challenge.
