Games: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
 
I... didn't realize Hooktail had appeared often enough to go 6-6 in the Sports Hall.  Well anyway, Hooktail can probably be credited with starting the craze of dragons in the Mario series.  Not only was Hooktail the first of three dragons to appear in The Thousand-Year Door (along with Gloomtail and Bonetail), but then Super Paper Mario would have Fracktail and Wracktail, and Galaxy 2 would have Gobblegut.  Well, I guess if you really want to get technical Czar Dragon from SMRPG must have been first, and then Dragohoho from Superstar Saga, but Hooktail's got to be the first dragon most people remembers.  Hooktail even appears on the box, ooh...

Hooktail's got the people of nearby Petalburg in a fright, what with flying around while being all large, oh, and the eating Koopas thing and leaving Dry Bones scattered all over its lair.  Turns out this dragon isn't as tough as it appears, though - all it takes is the chirp of a cricket to get it quacking.  When Hooktail's in trouble it will try to bail itself by making promises that no sane person would want anyway... do you want to smell a giant dragon's feet?  Apparently Hooktail can't even digest properly as Kroop (Mario's partner, Koops's, father) emerges unscathed after the battle.  But I'll give credit where it's due - try to beat this boss of the first chapter without the cricket badge, and you're in for a tough fight.

In the most shocking twist since the ending of the original Metroid, it turns out Hooktail is actually a girl, as revealed by her brother Gloomtail.  Only you don't get to play as her in a skin-tight outfit.  Wouldn't that be a fun way to replay PM2?

After going a tough 6-6 in the Sports Hall, Hooktail was a welcome selection as a wildcard contender for the Season Ten Tournament.  But her chances dwindled fast as she was quickly eliminated by the Glum Reaper.
