Muddy Buddy appeared in just one castle level in Yoshi's Island.  Not really seeming to be an enemy at all as he lacks even the touch of death, Yoshi was able to jump on him and stick, subsequently jumping with Muddy Buddy on the bottom of his feet.  This allowed Yoshi to cross a sea of spikes without getting speared.  Granted, it was still a dangerous crossing, perhaps Muddy plotted all along to get Yoshi killed this way when he would inevitably slip up.  But I doubt this simple mudball would have been thus conniving, and the plan certainly didn't work out.

Despite the fact he should really be considered a good guy like Poochy, he was allowed into the Sports Hall and reached Round Three in Season One but was defeated by Mack.  After a decade of absence, he returned for the Season Ten Tournament with his sluggy body wrapped around the self-absorbed Gloomtail.  Despite this new inner power, Muddy Buddy could wipe away Count Bleck in the first round and was eliminated from the tournament.
