Introducing Popple, the Shadow Thief!  Or, at least I would introduce him if I could find him.  Clever and nimble, Popple appeared throughout Superstar Saga, constantly giving Mario and Luigi trouble despite not being a part of the plot.  All he wanted were the goods, see, and he even almost got his mits on the entire Beanstar until the thing broke up.  A quick-thinking opportunist, upon finding an amnesiac Bowser, Popple was able to convince the Koopa King that he was actually Popple's minion, or Rookie, and the two banded together until Bowser came to his senses.  After once fighting the Marios solo and still being quite capable of throwing it down, he formed a partnership with Birdo.  He thought it was a "business" relationship, she thought it was a romance.  It didn't work out.  Popple ended up scrubbing the mushrooms in Lil Fungitown to pay for this crimes - an arrangement that appears not to have lasted long.

We may not know much about what Popple has done since performing his community service, but we do know that his travels took him through the Sports Hall, where he sailed through five fights to accumulate an unblemished 6-0 record and steal the season title.  Popple is one of just two undefeated fighters in Sports Hall history; while it's unusual to be able to win a season on the strength of just six decisions, such a spotless record is nothing to sneer at.  Despite his unblemished record, Popple simply has not been given the opportunity to amass as many victories as Mack (10-0) or Mr. L (11-1), so he's ranked third.  But he now has the chance to increase his win count as he scuttles into the Season Ten Tournament.  His first round match against Glum Reaper may have helped to shake off any rust as Popple had little trouble defeating the spectre even as an old friend jumped into the ring.  His next fight may be a little more interesting.  You'd better tie down... eat... eh, just give away your valuables, because his Round Two fight is against Wario!
