These guys have gone a long way from the original Rexes found in the earliest levels of Super Mario World.  Having been corrupted by the Shroobs, they appear in Peach's Castle and hit hard.  They're tall enemies and you'll have to first attack them with jumps to reduce their stature so that you even have a chance to dodge their attacks or to counter; otherwise they're too tall to get over.  They also have quite a lot of HP so they're difficult to take out before it's their turn.  So just focus on knocking any Shroob Rexes down a peg before they can attack, and then you'll have to fend them off with dodges and counters until you can finish them for good.
