I could think of so many more appropriate enemies to appear in a desert level than this guy, but so it is.  Trunkle appeared as a boss at the far side of Teehee Valley in M&LSS.  This monstrous tree had apparently been terrorizing the good citizens of Li'l Fungitown, but if was so much as a single fighter among them they could have shooed him away easily.  This guy really isn't very hard.  As he weakens he splits into four copies and you have to try to figure out which one is real and attack only that one.  On the other hand, with the right equipment and good use of Bros. Attacks, you could also destroy him in a single turn.
