Whether Mario’s evil cousin, money-motivated
savior, or videogame producer by day and masked crusader by garlic, Wario
has got to be one of the loudest characters in the Mario Universe.
He will stop at nothing to get what he wants, which mostly means money
or other denominations of wealth, though he’s also not above going for
glory and often appears in racing, sports, or party games.
Wario first came into the public eye when he took over Mario Land in Super Mario Land 2, locking Mario out of the castle until eventually being defeated, but this first appearance was more the exception than the rule. Despite a few lesser known games like Mario & Wario and Wario’s Woods, he's never again opposed Mario or his friends in a major title. After SML2, Wario started taking the main role in the Wario Land series, becoming an anti-hero of sorts in that he typically ended up helping others but only out of his greed for the treasure he would get at the end. In these games Wario exhibited great strength and stamina, even being invincible in some of them, and could transform into many things including fire, snowballs, vampire bats, and the list goes on. In the first Wario Land he also could collect power-ups like Mario can, but his own. More recently Wario has formed his own videogame company of WarioWare and releases collections of zany microgames, but don’t get fooled into thinking he’s doing it to bring joy to the world – it’s all for the love of the mighty gold coin.
Wario has a very long and storied history in the Sports Hall. His best performance came in Season Eight, when he muscled his way into the finals but was stumped by Anti Guy. But he’s appeared in the Sports Hall many times and has put up a good fight each time. And while seven losses would actually put him high up on the list of most defeats, there’s not an embarrassing defeat in the bunch, as each failure has come against an opponent that would go on to reach Round Three or Four. So basically, if you beat Wario, you’re golden.
But the time for settling for second best is over! Without any more interesting prize than burritoes and headbands, Wario may not have given his all before, but with the DynaStar awaiting the winner of the tournament, you can be sure he will now! Wario entered the tournament at the surprisingly low rank of 30, but refused to settile for a consolation prize as he smothered Nastasia in Round One. His next opponent is Perfect Popple, but Wario's not afraid. He plans to show the Shadow Thief how it's really done!
