Yoshi’s Safari: Quest for the 12 Gems

By Da Real Kooky

Castle Koopa...

“King Dad! King Dad!” Larry exclaimed upon entering Bowser’s throne room. “Guess what?!”

“What?!” Bowser yawned angrily from being awaken.

“Me and the others found an excellent way for you to get the Mushroom Kingdom!”

The other Koopalings then came in and stood behind Larry, all with evil grins one their tiny, young faces. They were ages 7-10 around this time.

“Ha! I should spank the lot of ya for losing so many times, and you think that you can win?!”

“Hehehe!” Larry chuckled to himself. “Don’t worry about that! Now to tell you our plan! We go to Jewelry Land! Then, we koopnap the rulers, Prince Pine and King Fret, and steal the kingdom's 12 magic gems!”

“Gems? ... Oh yeah! I remember now! If even one of the gems are missing, the land will go into total chaos! But... where did you find out about the gems and such?

“You know what they say, Ludwig is an open book!”

“Well... no... Mario will just come and beat us once again.”

“That where your wrong, King Dad! Me and Iggy will make sure that this time we’ll win FOR SURE! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!” Ludwig laughed his high, squeaky laugh from the cartoons, “But before we tell you what we’ll do, we have to get the gems and koopnap Pine and Fret!”

Jewelry Land Castle...

Prince Pine walked into the dining hall of the castle where King Fret, Jewelry Land’s chancellor, and a few of the Royal Council members were.

“That was one of the best meals I’ve had in quite a while!” one of the council members said. “Give my complements to the chef, King Fret!”

“My son cooked this,” Fret said. “Oh! There he is!”

Prince Pine sat down at the dining table.

“Alright! I hope you all enjoyed the feast! Time to get down to business,” Pine said as laid a few papers on the table.

“We’ve had several complaints about the water supply,” a council member said.

“Maybe we can borrow water from Water Land? I hear they built a factory that turns salt water into fresh w-” before the chancellor could finish talking, an earthquake rocked the castle. Fret ran to the window to see Bowser’s doomship attacking the grounds. Roy smashed through one of the other windows and grabbed Prince Pine and then Ludwig came and grabbed King Fret. The rest of the Koopalings came to help get the two to the doomship while the members of the council and the chancellor fled.

“Maw ha ha ha!” Bowser laughed, “Lemmy! Iggy! Get the gems!”

“Yes-” Lemmy started.

“King Dad” Iggy finished.

The twins ran through the dining hall doors and returned five minutes later, holding six gems each.

Castle Koopa Dungeons...

“Let go!” King Fret yelled as he and Prince Pine were thrown into the dungeon.

“Here’s a deck of cards to keep you two occupied,” Bowser said as he threw a deck of cards into the cell.

“Gee, thanks,” Pine smirked sarcastically.

Throne Room...

“LUDWIG! IGGY! Get in here!” Bowser yelled.

“You called?” Ludwig asked.

“I wanna know this so called plan of yours.”

“He! He! We wanted to keep them secret until the right moment for our plan to be complete!” Iggy giggled.

“What do ya mean by ‘them’?!”

“Robots or vehicles, whatever you prefer,” Ludwig said.

“Robots? What the-”

“Let me explain. Robots are machines that are like living beings, except they have metal limbs, oil for blood, run on batteries, and have a toaster for a brain. The robots I’m talking about have nothing in common with the robot I just described. I’m talking about robots the you control from inside! They spell victory for us because Mario can’t jump on the head of a robot and defeat it, can he?”

“No, you're right! He can’t! Ok, ok, are you working on them now?”

“That’s the beauty of it all, King Dad, they're already complete!” Iggy laughed.

Peach’s Castle...

There was a knock at the double doors of the castle and Princess Peach went to answer it only to find the Jewelry Land chancellor behind it.

“Princess Peach!” he exclaimed. “We need your help! Bowser and those Koopa Kids have kidnapped Prince Pine and King Fret and stolen the 12 gems!”

“Gasp! The gems?! Oh, no! If the gems are stolen then the kingdom will divide into two parts!” Peach said.

“Yes, a light world and a dark world!”

“I know! I’ll call Mario and he can rescue his majesty and the prince! Then he can get the gems back!”

“Where is Mario?” the chancellor asked.

“He, Luigi, and Yoshi are off celebrating the most recent victory over the Koopas,” Peach said.

Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi then came through the doors to the castle with Mario screaming, “It’s-a meeee, Mario!"

“For once I’m glad I hear him say that! Mario, we need your help right away! Two of my very close friends, Prince Pine and King Fret of Jewelry Land, have been koopnaped by the Koopa Klan!” Peach explained.

“Koopa Klan? Do-a you mean Bowser and-a the Koopa Kids-a?” Mario asked.

“Oh no! Of course not! I’m talking about a Koopa Troopa and a Magikoopa!”

“Oh!”

“*sigh* I DO MEAN BOWSER AND THE KOOPA KIDS!!!! ARE YOU DRUNK OR JUST STUPID?!”

“*hic* You-a decide!”

“You go out partying and come home drunk when we need you! *inhale* Ok... ok... think of your blood pressure, Peach... ok... ok... where are Yoshi and Luigi?”

"Yoshi and Luigi right here!” Yoshi yelled as he came into the room. “Why Princess so mad? Yoshi come back sober! Yoshi no say much ‘bout Luigi!”

Luigi was on the floor more drunk then Mario.

“Fine, Mario, you should be sober soon so you and Yoshi can go. I told you that Pine and Fret were koopnaped, right?” Peach asked.

“Um... right... right,” Mario said, still with a drunken tone of voice.

“The Koopas also stole the 12 gems.”

“GASP! WHAT?!”

Mario was so shocked that he became sober right away.

“Yes, and if just one of them is taken from the set, *gulp* total chaos will fall on Jewelry Land!”

“Come-a on, Yoshi!” Mario said, looking at the green dino. “Let’s-a go!”

“Wait Mario!” the Jewelry Land chancellor yelled. “There are rumors that the Koopas have some secret weapons!”

“You're right about that!” a mysterious voice laughed. “You wont stand a chance!”

The room filled with smoke. When it cleared, Kamek, chief of the Magikoopas, could be seen.

“Kamek?!” Peach gasped. “What are you doing here?!”

“He! He! He! You fools think that you can defeat us this time, don’t you?” he laughed. “I just came to warn you that the princes and the princess are the ones you have to worry about!”

“Kamek must mean the Koopa Kids!”

“Oh! He’s right! You won a million dollars! Join us next week on Who Want to be a Millionaire!” Kamek said sarcastically. “Anywho, I must be off! Oh, and Mario? You can’t jump on their heads now! Ha! Ha! He! He! See you!”

Kamek pulled out his trusty, trademarked broomstick and flew off.

Castle Koopa...

Bowser walked down the stone stairs to Ludwig’s underground lab, where he saw six large objects covered in large sheets.

“Ah! You’re here!” Ludwig said, excited. “I see you're looking at the robots!”

“Six masterpieces!” Iggy laughed.

“Um... why aren’t there seven?” Bowser asked.

“Wendy was worried that she would break a nail so she won’t be using one,” Ludwig said.

“What was the point of stealing the gems again?”

“So the people of Jewelry Land will experience chaos!” Iggy explained.

“What do you mean by ‘chaos’?”

“You’ll find out in due time!” Ludwig laughed.

Mario, Yoshi, Peach, the Jewelry Land chancellor, and the Mushroom Kingdom chancellor were all standing outside Peach’s Castle. Mario hopped on Yoshi’s back or saddle or WHATEVER and rode off on his way to the Koopa Kingdom. He arrived outside the gates to Castle Koopa, where two Sledge Bros. were on guard.

“You stay here, Yoshi, I’ll take care of the Sledge Brothers guarding the entrance. Then I’ll go in and if I’m not back in ten minutes, either come in or go get Luigi, if he’s sober that is!” Mario explained.

“Yoshi come in with Mario and protected him!” Yoshi said.

“No! I told you what to do and you do it!”

Mario ran up to the guards and was instantly pummeled to the ground. Yoshi ran up to the Sledge Bros. and ate them.

“Yoshi tell Mario he protect him! Yoshi eat danger!” Yoshi laughed before he turned white as a ghost, “Um... Mario... is it just Yoshi or are Sledge Brothers coming?”

Mario looked into the castle and could see at least 25 or more Sledge Bros. charging at them with a few Fire, Hammer, and Boomerang Bros. behind. Yoshi then backed away and bumped into a blue Koopa Troopa. He grabbed it with his tongue, held it in his mouth, and sprouted wings. Seeing this, Mario jumped on him and they flew over the many Bros. and flew up a near staircase.

“Where Yoshi and Mario going?” Yoshi asked as he spit out the Koopa and watched it run down the stairs, screaming.

“I’m not sure. I haven’t been up here before,” Mario said.

They walked the hallways and found themselves face to face with Lemmy.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here? A overweight plumber and a dinosaur with a pronoun problem?” Lemmy asked as if he didn’t know the answer.

“Get ‘em!” Mario yelled. “He might lead us to the gems or Pine and Fret!”

They chased Lemmy down the hallway and Lemmy stepped into some sort of elevator and went down to Ludwig’s lab. When he got there, the other Koopalings were there and he told them to get into their robots. Mario pushed a button and the elevator came back up and he and Yoshi went to the lab. The doors opened and they ran in front of Morton’s robot.

“Ha! Ha! Ha! Prepare to be b-b-blasted because I, the great Morton Koopa Jr. will defeat you, Mario and Yoshi because I’m so great and I’ll b-b-blast you to bit and pieces because I’m so great and wonderful and because I’m so great I can b-b-blast you to bits and pieces and when your in bits and pieces you’ll be unable to move because you’ll be in bits and pieces and...” Morton said, and said, and... well, you get the idea.

“Will you please shut the heck up?!” Larry asked.

“Let’s get this over with!” Roy yelled as he shot an energy ball from his balloon bot. Mario dodged it and tried to jump on Roy but failed. He and Yoshi ran back to the elevator, got to the main floor, and ran out the gates. They had lost for now.

Castle Koopa Dungeons...

“Got any 3s?” Pine asked.

“Go Fish!” Fret laughed.

Peach’s Castle...

Mario and Yoshi came running up to Peach’s Castle and almost broke down the twin doors when the Mushroom Chancellor opened the door.

“Back so soon?” he asked, tilting his head in thought.

“Yeah... they're... they're...” Mario couldn’t even get the words out to tell the chancellor that the Koopalings had won and that he had no idea how to even jump on them, “Well... you see... er... *sigh* The Koopalings are totally... I can’t beat them! They have some sort of robots! I can’t even jump on them!”

“Mario?! What happened to your accent?!”

“Oh! I stop talking Italian when I’m nervous. I was like that at Castle Koopa. Let me talk a few deep breaths... *inhale* ... *exhale*... Ok-a! I feel-a better now! I’m using A again! See-a! I-a can-a use-a it-a again-a! Cool-a, ain’t-a it-a?”

“Stop it!”

“Sorry-a... Oh! I-a mean, sorry.”

“Calm down on the As!”

“I-a need a weapon. One that-a can destroy the robots. I-a have to rescue Prince Pine and-a King Fret. I have to-a get the gems, as well.”

Peach and the Jewelry Land chancellor then came out.

“What’s going on?” Peach asked.

“I-a need a weapon! The Koopalings have-a some sort of-a robots!"

The Jewelry Land chancellor looked spooked.

“Robots?! You can’t beat them?! No! Pine and Fret! The gems! This is horrible! If just one of the gems is moved from the pile, the land will fall into chaos! The land will split right down the middle! One of the pieces will become the dark one and disappear to Dark Land somewhere! The other one will be fine, but if Bowser finds the dark one... he’ll have total control over Jewelry Land!” the Jewelry Land Chancellor explained. “It will be simple for Bowser to find the Dark World if it is in Dark Land.

“This is bad! What can we do... wait... Mario! Come with me!” Peach said.

Mario and Peach ventured deep into Peach’s Castle, past the basement. There was a pathway that lead far below the castle. They walked through a long hallway covered in stone. At the end lay a chest. On the chest, words read “Into the future, we can see. A feud between worlds will be. 7 machines, tough to fight, will turn to dust, like day turning to night. With this jewel, lies the key. Use it and you will see. Place the jewel on the chest, inside you will find what is the best. Use it on the machines to lay them to rest. This weapon is the crest. Energy flows through this gun, blasting machines will be quite fun! Blast those machines, it’s what needs to be done! Make them run! Only then will you receive, 12 tiny gems. Together they will make the world take the right path. A chubby little plumber, dressed in red, riding a dinosaur, will receive the gems. The Koopas will fall. This tells all.”

“Whoever wrote this,” Peach began, “must have seen into the future. Whoever wrote this must have known that those Koopas would have something to do with all this. I know that before this place was built, there was no Jewelry Land, so you can tell who wrote this is some sort of psychic or sorcerer or sorceress.”

“So, in that chest-a there is a gun that shoots-a energy? Almost like-a the Koopalings’ cannons on-a those robots. Energy... just like fighting fire-a with fire-a!” Mario said.

Peach took the jewel that was in a little hole on top of the treasure chest and put it into the key hole of the chest. Magically, the chest opened and the energy bazooka rose out of it. It floated over to Mario and fell into his hands.

“This is what-a I need to-a destroy the robots the Koopalings have-a?” Mario asked.

“I guess so... must be!” Peach said.
