It is a dark and gloomy night as Professor
E. Gadd is just getting to his lab in front of Luigi's Mansion from a
long day at his office. He takes a
view of Luigi's house, is just about to open his lab door, and notices
a
figure laying on Luigi's front porch.
E. Gadd gets closer to see who it is, but it is very dark outside. He looks
closer and sees it to be Luigi... but
as he gets a little bit closer, he notices that the character is dressed
in
red... It is Mario! E. Gadd, who is
walking slowly, starts to run fast, goes up the stairs, and check if Mario
is
still alive. Mario, he finds out, is
pale and hardly breathing, but still alive. E. Gadd goes to open the door,
when Luigi opens it first.
Luigi: Mario!
E. Gadd: I was just about to go into my lab when I saw him here...
Luigi: But... What's wrong with him?!
E. Gadd: I dunno... I'll have to take him to the Mushroom Kingdom hospital to see.
Luigi: Okay, I'll go with you.
E. Gadd and Luigi use the Gadd-Copter
and fly to the Mushroom Kingdom. It's 4 AM by the time they get
there, and E. Gadd takes him to the
hospital. They finally get to E. Gadd's office and E. Gadd looks at what's
wrong with Mario. As he's doing so,
Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, and Toad arrive.
Peach: I ran all the way... What's wrong with Mario?!
Daisy: Yeah... By the time me and Peach got the message, it was 12:30 AM.
Yoshi: What wrong with Mario?
Toad: Where's Mario?!
Luigi: Calm down, everyone! E. Gadd's checking him out now.
Just then, E. Gadd comes out.
Everyone: What's wrong?
E. Gadd: I'm sorry, but Mario has...
Peach: Well?!
Luigi: Peach, let him finish.
E. Gadd: ... Mario has had a few heart attacks... and he may die soon.
Luigi: What? That's impossible! He's only 33 years old!
Peach: Mario! How could this happen to you?
Daisy: The best hero ever... is gonna die?
Yoshi: My best friend gonna die?! ... Yoshi sad...
Toad: He was my friend too...
Luigi: My... brother...
Tears start to drop from Luigi's eyes.
E. Gadd: I don't know how all this happened,
but I do know this much: he must have eaten something that he
wasn't supposed to eat, because I've
done lots of research on this, and that's the only thing I can come up
with until I find out more.
Luigi: But what could possibly have done that?
E. Gadd: Well, what time did he have dinner tonight?
Luigi: Usual time. Around 6 o'clock.
E. Gadd: That's probably it. See, if
he would've had lots of salt on his food or something before bed, that
might have done it.
Luigi: But all he had was pasta! And for dessert, he had jello.
E. Gadd: Hmm. I'm sorry to put you through
all this, Luigi, but I need you to help me by being calm and
waiting.
Luigi: No, I won't wait! I'm going to do everything I can to keep my bro from dying!
Luigi starts to cry even more and runs
off. He runs outside to the back of the building. He stops and leans
against the wall. After a while, Daisy
comes up and stands next to him.
Daisy: Luigi, E. Gadd has something to tell you and everyone else.
Luigi: What? More bad news?
Daisy: Luigi, don't be angry. E. Gadd is doing all he can to help.
Luigi: ... What's he have to say?
Daisy: Follow me.
Daisy grabs Luigi's hand and takes him back inside.
E. Gadd: In the time Luigi was outside,
I was able to do more research into a cure. I created a cure that will
keep Mario from dying. I injected it
into his arm and he should be awake in 30 minutes...
30 minutes later...
Mario: ... Oohhhh... Huh? Luigi?
Luigi: ... Hey big bro.
Yoshi: Hi Mario!
Peach: Hi Mario.
Daisy: Hi.
Toad: Mario! You're alive!
Mario: What happened?
Luigi: Long story; I'll tell you tonight.
E. Gadd: Oh, that's okay... I can tell him now. Well Mario, it all started out...
12 minutes later...
E. Gadd: ...And, well, here you are!
Mario: Woah! I must have been through a lot, then!
E. Gadd: You sure were...
Mario: Thanks a lot, Gadd.
Luigi: Do you remember how this happened to you?
Mario: All I remember is eating with Luigi, going outside to take a gaze, then, I'm... here...
Luigi: That's all?
Mario: But before I fell, I kinda felt something hit against my head, but I was pretty tired.
E. Gadd is sitting at his computer. He then stands up.
E. Gadd: Guys, there's... some more bad news...
Luigi: What now?!
E. Gadd: Nothing serious, but, I just found out that... this couldn't have just come up on Mario, like an illness.
Everyone: ...?
E. Gadd: The only way this could've happened to him... would mean that... someone did this to him.
Everyone: ...!
E. Gadd: This was no accident. SOMEONE had to have given Mario something.
Peach: "Something"?
E. Gadd: It's a formula called Penosiom,
a green, glowing liquid that causes heart attacks. As a matter of fact,
this poison was made not too long ago.
Someone planned to do this to Mario.
Luigi: That means that...
E. Gadd: That "someone" tried to poison Mario!
Peach: *gasp*
Silence...
Mario: ... Bowser!
Luigi: Yeah, it's Bowser! He did this!
E. Gadd: I agree. Bowser's ALWAYS wanted him dead.
Mario: We should check with Bowser, first thing.
Luigi: C'mon, Mario! I have just the place to capture him...
Mario and Luigi leave, as Peach, E.
Gadd, and everyone else stay at the hospital. Mario and Luigi run all the
way to Dark Land and find Castle Koopa.
Just like professional spies, they sneak inside. They somehow get
past all the guards and sneak through
one unguarded window. They look all around for something to capture Bowser
with, and find a large cage in the dungeon. We fade to see Mario and Luigi
bursting into the throne room, where Bowser and Junior are.
Junior: Hey! It's them!
Bowser: Get them!
Luigi: Grrr!
Luigi lunges toward Junior. Junior pulls his giant paintbrush out of his shell and blasts a glob of green goop at Luigi. The goop hits Luigi, who gets pasted to the ground.
Mario: Luigi!
Mario runs toward Junior. Junior blasts goop at Mario, but Mario jumps up and bounces off Bowser's head. Bowser didn't even see Mario coming until Mario gave that wake up call. Bowser holds his head.
Bowser: Grrrrrr!
Bowser hops out of his throne and jumps up. Mario is covered by a huge shadow before leaping out of the way, just as Bowser lands. Bowser almost lands on Mario. Mario pulls out a large mallet and swings it at Bowser, but Bowser grabs it and jerks it out of Mario's hand. Mario speeds over behind Bowser, and before Bowser can swing around, Mario grabs his tail and starts spinning Bowser around. Mario finally spins Bowser fast enough such that Bowser is above ground from the spinning speed. Mario lets go of Bowser's tail, sending Bowser flying across the room and into the third room from the throne room. Mario watches as Bowser flies through his walls, when Junior jumps up and lands on Mario's back. Mario shakes Junior off and runs over to Luigi. Mario pulls Luigi out of the slimey gunk and Luigi wipes the goop off. Bowser then walks back into the throne room. Mario and Luigi run out of the throne room.
Junior: C'mon, let's get them!
Bowser and Junior run after Mario and
Luigi. The Bros. run around the castle, Bowser and Junior right
behind them. They soon make it to the
huge foyer. The Brothers run past a rope and wait for the right
moment. When Bowser and Junior are
in the center of the room, Luigi pulls out a pocket knife and cuts the
rope, which is attached to the ground
and hooked on to something on the roof. Right after Luigi cuts the
rope, down plunges a large cage, falling
right on top of Bowser and Junior and trapping them. The cage is
too heavy for Bowser to lift and too
strong for Bowser to bend the bars (although it doesn't seem possible).
Junior: HEY!
Luigi: Hah! We got you now!
Bowser: What all this all about?!
Mario: Cuz you wanted to see ME dead, as usual!
Bowser: What-
Luigi: You tried to kill Mario by giving him a green, glowing poison, didn't you?!
Bowser: ... No!
Luigi: Huh? You didn't?
Bowser: No!
Luigi: Junior?
Junior: No! It was my boss that did it!
Luigi: BOWSER!
Bowser: What?!
Mario: Don't try to cover it. Junior just gave it away.
Bowser Jr: I said my BOSS! Not my Papa!
Luigi: (to Mario) Then that... that means that someone else wanted you dead...
Mario: ...
Mario and Luigi look at each other. Then they run off to the hospital.
Bowser: HEY! WHAT ABOUT US?!
Bowser Jr: Grrrh!
Later at the hospital...
Luigi: E. Gadd, it wasn't Bowser.
E. Gadd: But, that's... I thought for sure it... How can that be?
Mario: Bowser Jr. said he had a "boss"... but we don't know who.
Luigi: Could it be... Wario?
Mario: If it isn't Bowser, it's gotta be Wario. If it's not Wario, I don't know who it could be.
E. Gadd: Well, I guess you'd better go and find Wario...
Mario and Luigi set off again to see
if it was Wario. They get to his castle and open the door to find Wario
sitting on the floor in front of a
huge pile of gold coins.
Wario: What do-a you want?!
Luigi: We need to ask you something.
Wario: Well make it snappy! I'm-a countin' my gold coins!
Mario: Did you ever have a green, glowing liquid?
Wario: What are you-a talking about?!
Mario: I was poisoned by someone who put that in my food when I was visiting Luigi. Where is it?!
Wario: I've never seen such a thing-a! Go ask Bowser!
Mario: We did...
Luigi: Wait... Where's Waluigi?
Wario: He went out-a gambling!
Mario: What about him?
Wario: No, no, and no! He was-a with
me for eight whole days in a row! He never went anywhere unless it
was-a somewhere I went! Now beat it!
Mario: Okay. We're done.
Wario: Finally! I almost lost-a count!
Mario closes the door and - again- goes back to E. Gadd's office in the hospital.
Mario: -
E. Gadd: Don't tell me... It wasn't Wario...
Luigi: Nope.
E. Gadd: What about Waluigi?
Mario: Not him either.
E. Gadd: This is tough... Well, I guess we can sleep this out.
Mario, Luigi, Peach, and E. Gadd all
fall asleep after everyone else returns to their homes. It's 10:50 PM,
and
while they sleep, someone covered in
a black poncho sneaks in as quiet as a mouse, holding a test tube
filled with a green, glowing liquid.
The mysterious figure goes to Mario, who is sleeping on the couch with
his mouth open, and goes to pour the
stuff in his mouth. Luigi, who was having a hard time sleeping on the
hospital bed, opens his eyes to peek,
and notices the guy is about to pour the stuff in Mario's mouth. Luigi
recognizes the stuff just in time.
Luigi: MARIO!
Luigi jumps out of the bed as everyone
wakes up. E. Gadd gets out of the chair he was sleeping in and
moves Peach away. The evil person hurriedly
pours the stuff out as Mario is still laying down, hardly awake.
Luigi grabs Mario's leg and pulls him
off of the couch just in time, as the stuff pours all over the arm of the
couch where Mario had his head. Luigi
punches the poncho-guy as Mario finally realizes what's happening.
The poncho-guy punches Luigi and knocks
him down. Mario jumps up and punches the guy from behind and
knocks him on top of Luigi. The guy
is holding Luigi down and beating him up. Mario pulls him off of Luigi
and beats him up until the guy falls.
The guy gets up and Luigi grabs his arms from behind and holds him
there.
Mario: Now, let's see who the culprit is...
Mario pulls off the poncho... and to their surprise, it's...
Everyone: Waluigi?!
Mario: But... why?
Luigi: What've you got against Mario?!
Waluigi: I-a heard Wario complaining
eight days ago that Mario spoils all of his-a plans! So I decided to get
Mario back.
Luigi: You'd kill Mario... just for
some STUPID payback?! If it hadn't been for E. Gadd seeing him on my front
porch at the right time, Mario would
have been dead by now!
Mario: And about Bowser Jr. saying he had a boss... You weren't his boss, you were just his partner.
Waluigi: I told-a him to say that to confuse you guys! I figured you'd think it was-a Bowser!
Luigi: Well if it hadn't been for Bowser
Jr., we would still think it was Bowser! We asked him about that and
he said it wasn't his dad, but his
BOSS!
Mario: How did you sneak that stuff into my jello?
Waluigi: I head that-a Mario was at
Luigi's mansion... so when you two were in the dining room, I was-a in
the
hall, listening through the door and-a
looking through the keyhole. Then, you and Luigi had to go in the
kitchen to get some silverware you
forgot-a, so when I heard you go in the kitchen, I sneaked in and put that
glowing-a stuff in his dessert: green
jello! Then, when I saw you about to come out, I hid in the room across
the hall.
Mario: So you hit me in the back of the head that night!
Luigi: And how did you sneak away from Wario? He said you were with him for eight whole days!
Waluigi: Since-a Wario never realizes
what's going on after he starts counting all his-a gold coins, I sneaked
out. By the time he was-a done, I was
done!
Luigi: Well, I guess you're going to prison-
Waluigi: Hold on! You can't prove a thing-a!
Mario: Oh yeah?
Mario pulls a mini-tape recorder out
of his pocket and plays the parts where Waluigi confesses. Then Mario
shuts it off.
Mario: As soon as I saw you in here,
before I jumped out of the bed, I grabbed a tape recorder that was on
the desk beside me... just in case
we'd get you to confess. Then I jumped off the bed to save Luigi.
Waluigi: Arrrrgh!
Two Mushroom Kindom cops, who had been outside the door listening, come in and take Waluigi.
E. Gadd: (as Waluigi is taken away) Also, when I saw you in here, I grabbed the phone and called 911...
Waluigi: Grrrrrr!
A day later in the paper...
E. Gadd: Read this, everybody!
Everyone (including Yoshi, Daisy, and Toad) gather around E. Gadd as he reads the article.
Waluigi Wario was arrested yesterday
and will be on trial today, accused of the attempted murder of Mario.
According to a tape recorder that
was on during the event, Waluigi overheard his brother Wario complaining
that Mario spoils all of his evil plans. If convicted, Waluigi will
spend thirty years in the Mushroom Kindom
prison for the two attempted murders
of Mario and for gambling on restricted grounds.
Mario said that if it hadn't been
for E. Gadd noticing him laying on Luigi's front porch in the middle of
the
night, he would have died. He also
thanked his brother Luigi for not giving up and for helping to solve the
mystery. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi,
Daisy, Toad, Toadsworth, and Professor E. Gadd plan to go to Isle
Delfino to celebrate the rescuing
of Mario.
Everyone starts celebrating as E. Gadd
and Yoshi jump around, Peach and Daisy wave their arms around
and dance, Toad spins around, and the
Mario Bros. throw their hats in the air. They celebrate for 20 minutes,
not ever wanting to stop.
