Crystal Terror

Chapter 1: Distress Call

Yoshi’s Island was famous for large caves, filled with great danger. Most of the dangers were Boos or Piranha Plants, creatures that naturally lived in caves. But, deep down in one of these caves was a fortess. It was almost as large as Bowser’s Keep but no one had ever seen it before. No one, that is, except for the owners and their victims.

In the central chamber a Koopa awoke. He had no idea how he had got there. Then he remembered walking home that night and the shadows, those horrible shadows, surrounding him, and that was all he remembered. He observed the room around him, realizing that he was being watched. Seven pairs of eyes were watching him, each of them with a dead look to them. He looked up to see a huge crystal hanging from the ceiling, glowing an eerie blue. Then one of the pairs of eyes move forwards, revealing a figure cloaked from its head to is ankles. The only visible parts were its armored toes and its horrible eyes.

“What are you?” the Koopa asked. The figure didn’t respond, instead it pulled a staff out from under the cloak. He raised the staff into the air and spun it around, until it was a blur. The Koopa became hypnotized by the motion, so distracted that he didn’t notice the bolt of energy fly out of the staff and knock him unconscious. The energy bolt then flew from the Koopa and into the large crystal. Two more figures stepped out of the shadows and dragged the Koopa away. The cloaked figure turned to the remaining ceatures in the shadows and spoke in a voice that sounded like someone rubbing a Goomba against metal.

“We must have more,” he said, turning to the crystal. The figures nodded and went their separate ways.

Larry walked down the hallways, following the strange sounds booming across Bowser’s Keep. He stopped outside of Ludwig’s room, the noises louder than ever. Just before Larry opened the door, Ludwig flew backwards out of the room and crashed into the opposite wall.

“Vell,” the charred Koopaling said. “That didn’t work.” He tried to free himself of the wall, but the spikes on the back of his shell were embedded into the stone.

“Do you need help?” Larry asked, slightly irritated.

“Yes,” Ludwig responded. Larry grabbed his brother’s arms and pulled with all his might. He finally managed to pull Ludwig free, and Larry’s much larger sibling fell on top of him.

“Ow,” Larry said, kicking Ludwig off. “What were you doing?” Ludwig escorted Larry into the room. Inside was a large machine, resembling a small doomship.

“What is it?” Larry asked.

“It is a veather machine,” Ludwig replied proudly. “It predicts the veather.”

“Veather?” Larry asked, confused. “Oh, you mean weather.”

“Yes, veather,” Ludwig said. He then returned to his work, which consisted of grabbing a wrench and whacking the machine. Suddenly, another explosion occured and Ludwig smashed into the ceiling.

“I have plants to deal with,” Larry said, walking out of the room. After recovering, the oldest Koopaling continued his work. After about an hour, something happened.

“Mayday! Mayday!” a voice boomed from the machine. “This is Hovership 5! We are being attacked! Help!” The voice continued to shout and then Ludwig realized what was going on.

“My veather machine is actually a radio?” Ludwig asked himself. He went over to his desk and looked over his notes. Then he heard another shout from the machine. Ludwig ran over to it and spoke.

“Vhat is attacking you?” he asked.

“It looks like a Paratroopa,” the person, who could be assumed to be the pilot, said. “Except its wings are black and it wears strange clothes. We need help!”

“Don’t vorry, I’ll get help!” Ludwig shouted, heading out the door to get help. Suddenly, the shouting stopped. Ludwig turned and ran up to the machine, asking if anyone was there. Then a horrible scream came from the machine and echoed across the Keep.

“Mario!” Luigi shouted, running up to his brother.

“What-a is it-a, Luigi?” Mario asked. “I was resting.” Luigi reached into his pocket and pulled out a note.

“It’s from the princess,” Luigi said, handing it to Mario.

“When-a is it not-a?” Mario joked. He read the note and then ran back into the house.

“Mario, what are you doing?” Luigi asked, following. He found Mario packing his suitcase.

“What are you doing?” Luigi repeated.

“Peach has-a invited us to go-a on a vacation to Yoshi’s Island-a,” Mario said, tossing a suitcase at Luigi.

“Hasn’t this happened before?” Luigi asked after pushing the suitcase off of him. Mario ignored this question and dragged his brother out of the house. They walked down the pathway to Peach’s Castle and greeted the guards as they entered. They found Peach and Toadsworth inside, holding their bags.

“Hi Mario,” Peach said.

“Hey-a Peach,” Mario replied. “When are we-a going?”

“As soon as the hover- Woah!” Peach was interrupted by a sudden tremor. They ran outside to find a hovership, lying in a crater. The group stood in silence, only Luigi mustering the courage to speak.

“Wooster’s going to be busy,” he said.

Chapter 2: Disappearances

In Bowser’s Keep, the Koopalings rushed from whatever they were doing to see what was going on in Ludwig’s room. They found him sitting on the floor, staring at his machine.

“What happened here?” Lemmy asked. Ludwig turned at the sound of his brother’s voice and got to his feet.

“Something happened,” Ludwig said sadly. “My veather machine became a radio and someone said they were under attack.” A loud growl and a thumping sound echoed through the hall and Bowser slowly walked into the room, rubbing his eyes.

“What’s going on here?” Bowser said while yawning.

“Ludwig says his machine is a radio,” Morton said. “Although, how could we believe that? I mean, how can a weather, or veather as Ludwig puts it, machine become a radio? And who was on the other side of the-“ Morton was interrupted by several Koopalings tackling him to the ground and shoving a box in his mouth.

“That story is unbelievable,” Iggy said.

“But I-” Ludwig started.

“Iggy’s right, it is impossible,” Bowser said. “Ludwig, if you want attention, ASK FOR IT WHEN I’M NOT SLEEPING!” He then stomped out of the room, the other Koopalings following behind.

“But it really happened!” Ludwig shouted.

Mario and Luigi circled the hovership, looking for a door. They found it and Mario grabbed the doorknob, pulling with all his might. To his surprise, the door flew off its hinges, whacking Mario in the face. He placed the door down and dragged Luigi inside. The interior of the hovership was dark and smelled really bad.

“Hello, anyone-a here?” Mario called.

“It’s empty,” Luigi said when no one replied. They took a short walk through the ship, looking for anyone that might be hiding. The place was a wreck: chairs were overturned and it looked as if there was a struggle.

“Where-a is everyone?” Mario asked.

“We should go,” Luigi said, shivering. “We need to tell the princess that the trip is cancelled.” The Mario Bros. stepped out of the ship, all the while wondering what had happened to the passengers and the pilot.

Somewhere on Yoshi’s Island, a strange creature knew exactly where they were. His name was Paradrak, a Paratroopa misfit. His wings were much larger than a normal Paratroopa's and his feathers were black instead of white. He served a cloaked being known as Drygron, a creature whose face has never been seen. He was part of a group known as the Crystoknights, seven creatures who set out to achieve ultimate power, using a powerful crystal that fed off the energy of living creatures, sending them into an eternal coma. This crystal needed constant feeding, so Paradrak and the other Crystoknights had to hunt down people and make them disapear into the night. Paradrak had  caught a hovership-load of prisoners, which he had just delivered to Drygron. He sensed that, soon, the crystal would be ready to share its power with them and they could crush both the Mushroom Kingdom and the Koopa Kingdom. He looked around him to see a Yoshi, walking through the woods. Smiling, Paradrak spread his wings and flew off after the dinosaur.
