Chapter 2: Bowser’s Castle
The Marios are at Bowser’s Castle, home of Bowser!
Luigi: Once we enter, we can defeat Bowser and get the Diamond Star!
Mario: Right.
Mario and Luigi enter the castle. There’s five paintings, and only one of them is a warp.
Mario: I’ve got an idea!
Mario shoots a fireball at a painting. The fireball goes through.
Mario: Let’s go!
Mario and Luigi jump through the painting. When they do, they see a warp pipe. They go down it, and land in the dungeon!
Luigi: Oh no!
Bowser’s Voice: HAHAHA! You fell for it! I knew that you would come to get my Diamond Star, so I made that trap!
Mario: You’d better let us out right now!
Bowser’s Voice: Why should I? GRAHAHA!...
Bowser can’t be heard anymore.
Luigi: How do we get out?
Mario: Look! There’s a warp pipe right outside the cell!
Luigi: Maybe I can slip through the bars…
Luigi tries and fails.
Mario: How are we going to get out?
Luigi: Hey look!
They see a staircase going down.
Luigi: Let’s go!
They follow the staircase and come to a huge library.
Mario: Mamamia! This doesn’t answer our question of how to get out!
The Marios walk until they see a chest. Mario tries to open it.
Mario: It’s locked!
They see a piece of paper on the chest.
Luigi: We’d better read it.
They read it and find out that the key is being used as a bookmarker for one of the books.
Luigi: This is a huge library. We’ll never find the book!
Then the Marios hear footsteps. They hide. Then they see Kamek.
Kamek: Ha! They’ll never know that the key isn’t in a book! It’s actually up on a high shelf!
Luigi: Did you hear that, Mario?
Kamek: Who said that?
Kamek levitates everything and finds the Marios.
Kamek: AHA! I knew you two would try to get out!
Mario: We will!
Kamek: In your dreams!
Kamek throws a spell at Mario. He dodges it, but then Kamek teleports behind Mario and punches him into a wall. Luigi hammers Kamek, but he puts on a shield that breaks the hammer in two. Then Kamek throws a spell at Luigi and it knocks him into a wall. Mario sneaks up behind Kamek and throws three fireballs, but Kamek conjures a bucket of water and throws it over the fireballs.
Luigi: Ahh! We’re going to have to work together!
Luigi throws a punch at Kamek, but he puts on his shield. Luigi keeps punching, doing nothing. When the shield wears off, both Mario and Luigi jump up and shoot Kamek with fireballs and thunderballs. Kamek dodges, but then the Marios both jump on Kamek. Kamek falls down and Mario burns him. Then Luigi shocks Kamek. Mario whacks Kamek with his hammer and Luigi jumps on Kamek.
Kamek: Ow!
Kamek faints. Mario and Luigi look for a high shelf and find the key. They open the chest and find another key.
Luigi: Maybe we can open our cell door with this key!
Mario and Luigi try the key on the cell door, and it works! They jump into the warp pipe and it leads them right outside Bowser’s door.
Luigi: Ready to battle Bowser?
Mario: Couldn’t be more ready.
The Marios open the door,
and get ready to battle Bowser.
Chapter 3: Battling Bowser
Once the Marios enter the door with Bowser, they immediately spot him.
Bowser: WHAT?! How’d you get out of my dungeon? Well, it doesn’t matter. I’LL CRUSH YOU!
Bowser jumps at the Marios and throws flames. Luigi jumps and uses his hammerhead (Remember, it got broken in Chapter 2). Bowser catches it and throws Luigi into a wall. While Bowser is distracted with Luigi, Mario punches Bowser. Then Luigi gets up and kicks Bowser into the air. Then Mario grabs Bowser’s tail and throws him Super Mario 64-style. Bowser breaks the wall but gets back up. Luigi dashes at Bowser, but he breathes fire and burns Luigi. Then Mario hops behind Bowser and tries to throw him again, but Bowser jumps away and breathes fire, burning Mario. Then Luigi shocks Bowser, but he counters with his fire. Then Mario and Luigi jump into the air and crash onto Bowser. Mario gets burned, but Luigi manages to hit Bowser. Then Bowser scratches Mario. Mario decides that this is too much and faints. Then Bowser proceeds to get Luigi, but then he sees that he’s being throne into a wall. Luigi had just picked up Bowser and tossed him Super Mario 64-style! Bowser crashes into another wall and faints.
Luigi: So long, Bowser!
Mario wakes up and sees that Bowser fainted. As Bowser opens his eyes, the Marios walk toward him.
Luigi: Where’s the Diamond Star?
Bowser: In my shell…
Mario grabs it, but then it suddenly disappears and is replaced with a Bob-omb!
Bob-ob: 3… 2… 1…
BOOM!
Then the person, no, thing holding the Diamond Star appears.
???: Ha! They expected nothing! Now Shadow Yoshi will take this to Boss!
The smoke from the explosion clears, and Mario is the only one standing besides Shadow Yoshi.
Shadow Yoshi: What?! How did the explosion not knock you out? Well, this’ll be even more fun. DIE!
Shadow Yoshi teleports behind Mario and kicks him. Mario flies into a wall and gets up weakly.
Shadow Yoshi: Aww. Little Mario tired out from my explosion and battling Bowser? TOO BAD!
Shadow Yoshi kicks Mario into the sky. Mario collides with the roof, but instead of following the laws of gravity, Mario breaks the roof and keeps flying into the air. Then Mario falls and crashes into the floor.
Shadow Yoshi: This is no fun. You have no chance of beating Shadow Yoshi, so this is no fun. Take the Diamond Star.
Shadow Yoshi throws the Diamond Star to the nearly fainted Mario.
Shadow Yoshi: When you do have a chance of beating Shadow Yoshi, Shadow Yoshi will return and kill you then. For now, goodbye.
Shadow Yoshi teleports away. Mario recovers his strength, and Luigi wakes up.
Luigi: What happened?
Mario: We got the Diamond Star!
Luigi: Where’s the next one?
Then the Mailtoad appears, hands Mario a letter, and disappears as quickly as he appeared.
Mario: It says that the Emerald Star is at the Glitz Pit, the Ruby Star is in Flipside, and the Garnet Star is once again at Poshley Sanctum.
Luigi: Let’s get the Ruby Star. It’s the second most powerful Crystal Star.
Mario: Ok.
The Marios go back to Toad
Town, not knowing what will happen on their trip to Flipside.
Chapter 4: Getting to Flipside
Mario: So how do we get to Flipside?
Luigi: I don’t know.
Mario: Warp pipe!
Mario goes to the Toad Town sewers. Luigi follows. Eventually they find a warp pipe. It says “WARP TO FLIPSIDE”. Mario and Luigi jump in it. Meanwhile…
???: So, did you succeed?
Shadow Yoshi: After giving them a beating, they were very scared of my power, so out of pity, Shadow Yoshi give them the Diamond Star.
…
???: YOU IDIOT! THEY NOW HAVE ONE CRYSTAL STAR, WHICH MEANS THERE ARE ONLY FIVE MORE CRYSTAL STARS OUT THERE!
Shadow Yoshi: Don’t worry. This time, I’ll get them.
???: This time? Sorry, Shadow Yoshi. Maybe next time. SHADOW WALUIGI, COME OVER HERE!
Shadow Waluigi: I’m scared of coming over there! I mean, yes Boss?
???: Go to Flipside. Find the Ruby Star.
Shadow Waluigi: Um… We can’t teleport that far.
???: It’s only an alternate dimension! Now get over there!
Shadow Waluigi: I’ll try.
Shadow Waluigi teleports. Back with Mario and Luigi, they find themselves in Shiver City.
Luigi: This isn’t Flipside.
Mario: Yeah. We’ll talk to the mayor.
Mario and Luigi go to the mayor’s house. When they come in they are greeted by the mayor.
Mayor: Welcome, Mario and Mario’s brother!
Mario: Mayor, there’s something we need to ask you. Why did that pipe we came through say Warp to Flipside when it took us here?
Mayor: It says that because there’s a warp to Flipside at Crystal Palace. The warp is where you fought the Crystal King.
Luigi: Ok, then let’s go!
Mario and Luigi go to Shiver Path. They see that the snowmen still have their secret path open, so they go there. Then they keep going until they’re at the Crystal Palace. They get to the end after A LOT of confusion, and see the warp pipe… and Crystal King guarding it.
Crystal King: Halt! No one can use the secret warp pipe unless they defeat me.
Mario: I beat you once, I can beat you again!
Crystal King: You had more partners last time.
Luigi: I’m his brother, and I’m twice as good as Mario!
Crystal King: Really? Then this should be an interesting match. I’ve learned new moves over the last seven years, and I hope you did too!
Luigi: Time to begin now, I think.
Crystal King: Ok. ICE SHOT!
Crystal King spins around faster than the speed of sound, shooting ice. Mario gets injured and Luigi is frozen.
Mario: Luigi!
Mario starts glowing, then unleashes fire all over the battlefield. It unfreezes Luigi and almost melts Crystal King.
Luigi: Thanks, Bro!
Mario: No problem. Now, HYPER MELT!
Mario glows again, then unleashes fire all over the battlefield again. Just as Crystal King reforms, the fire hits him. Then Luigi glows, and a huge thunderstorm starts.
Crystal King: That’s all? HAHAHA!
Then a lightning bolt strikes Crystal King, followed by 2 more.
Crystal King: AUGH!
Crystal King heals himself, then he splits into 3.
Crystal Kings: Which is the real me? HAHAHA!
Mario does another Hyper Melt, destroying the Crystal King clones, but not harming the real Crystal King at all.
Crystal King: INVISIBILITY!
Crystal King sneaks around, not getting hit at all by the Mario Brothers’ attacks. Then a huge snowstorm starts and sends Mario and Luigi flying into the air. Luigi’s thunderstorm is still in affect. You know what happens now, right?
ZAP!
Mario and Luigi get zapped several times until Luigi finds out that he could’ve just stopped the thunderstorm. He stops it, then the Mario Brothers find Crystal King using their hearing. They see, no, hear him to their right. Luigi starts up another thunderstorm, and Mario does a Hyper Melt.
Crystal King: HAHAHAHAHA- What? Uh oh.
Crystal King is zapped multiple times, then he melts. Crystal King tries to reform, but thunderbolts keep zapping him, and if Crystal King were to reform, the heat from Hyper Melt would melt him again.
Crystal King: STOP! I give up!
Crystal King reforms, then
allows Mario and Luigi to go in the warp.
Chapter 5: The Bros’ First Battle with a Shadow
Mario and Luigi appear right where the Dimensional Doors are.
Luigi: So where’s the Ruby Star?
Mario: Maybe Merlon knows. Let’s go!
Mario and Luigi take the elevator, then go to Merlon’s house.
Merlon: Yes, I do know where the Ruby Star is.
Luigi: But we didn’t even ask yet!
Merlon: I’m a wizard, so I know what you say before you say it. The Ruby Star, I have.
Luigi: Can you give it to us? We’re on a quest to collect them.
Merlon: Ok.
Merlon gives the Ruby Star to Mario- but then it disappears! Shadow Waluigi has it!
Shadow Waluigi: I’m scared of having it! I mean, it’s me, Shadow Waluigi! You have the Diamond Star! I’ll take it!
Shadow Waluigi throws Bob-ombs everywhere. The Marios jump and throw fireballs at Shadow Waluigi. Well, Mario does. Luigi throws thunderballs. Shadow Waluigi gets burned and shocked. Then Mario does a Hyper Melt, but Shadow Waluigi throws a Bob-omb at Mario. Since the Hyper Melt starts to spread out from Mario, the Bob-omb’s fuse gets lit. Shadow Waluigi throws many more Bob-ombs... BOOM! Flipside is safe, but the Mario Bros. aren’t. Luigi faints while Mario struggles to stand.
Shadow Waluigi: Boss was right! You guys are so pathetic!
Mario: We…can still… beat… you…
Shadow Waluigi: In that state you don’t stand a chance!
Merlon: Yes, but in this state they do!
Merlon does some magic, then the Mario Bros. are fully restored and Bob-omb-proof!
Mario: EARTH TREMOR!
The Diamond Star grows huge, then Mario and Luigi get on it. Then the Diamond Star starts jumping up and down, making tremors. Then it shrinks and the Marios hop off.
Luigi: That was powerful!
Shadow Waluigi: Ugh… I can beat you…
Luigi: Hey Mario, I heard that the Crystal Stars have new powers. Try the Diamond Star’s new power!
Mario: Ok! Do you know what the name of it is?
Then the Diamond Star floats up and shoots multiple lasers at Shadow Waluigi. Many hit and Shadow Waluigi is down for the count.
Mario: Guess we’ll call it Hyper Laser.
Luigi: Right.
Shadow Waluigi’s body disintegrates into thin air, leaving nothing…but the Ruby Star.
Mario: We got it!
Luigi: Which one should we get next, the Emerald or Garnet Star?
Mario: I think we should get the Emerald Star next.
Luigi: No! Let’s get the Garnet Star. Then we’ll be able to relax from our adventure so far while we’re on the train.
Mario: Ok.
The Marios go back to Flipside. Meanwhile…
???: YOU LOST ANOTHER CRYSTAL STAR?!
Shadow Waluigi: Yes! Those guys are tough!
???: GO TO THE DUNGEON, NOW!
Shadow Waluigi: Which dungeon? The shadow dungeon or the light dungeon?
???: LIGHT!
Shadow Waluigi: NOOOOO!
???: … Wait, no! Shadow Yoshi, come here!
Shadow Yoshi: Yes Boss?
???: You and Shadow Waluigi are going to go to Poshley Sanctum and get the Garnet Star. The Marios have to ride a train, but you can just teleport, so I expect you to come back successful!
Shadow Yoshi: Ok. This time, Shadow Yoshi will not fail.
Shadow Yoshi and Shadow Waluigi leave by teleporting.
