Star Wars Episode 2 Review

By Dane Petersen

Hi. It’s me, Dane Petersen, here to review another video game. This Review is going to be a bit different from my previous ones because… well… you’ll see…

My brother’s a big Star Wars freak, so when I got my GBA he just HAD to go get this game. I played It a few times and decided to do a Review on it. Anyway, like my previous ones, this will be on a 1-5 star scale.

Story: ***

The game follows most of the story from the movie, leaving out a few things. Anyway, it begins when Anikin Skywalker (or, if you want to get teachnical, the future Darth Vader) is chasing Zam Wessel over rooftops of Corasant and ends with the deul with ex-Jedi Count Dooku for the final battle. Most of the plot is told through pictures taken from the movie.

Graphics: **

Right off the bat I can say that the graphics are not good. Everything looks all bleak and pale, and where is Anikin’s face?! The graphics in the flight levels are downright awful. I mentioned above that there are pictures taken from the movie in the game, but they are reduced a lot in quality. I know the GBA screen isn’t a 72 inch TV, but come on, people!

Sound: *

Awful, annoying, and scratchy. Is that supposed to be some sort of theme song that plays when you beat a level? Cuz it sure doesn’t sound like a victory theme at all. Bleach.

Gameplay: This shall be broken down into categories.

Side-Scrolling Levels: ***

They are fun... for a bit. You try to get to the right part of the level (been there, done that) while jumping over pits (been there, done that) and dodging enemies (I think you can guess what I’m going to say here). Unfortunately, your character jumps very low. You can supposedly use the Force to jump extra high, but they don’t tell you how to do it. I’ve only pulled it off once or twice, but I keep forgetting the button sequence and I lost the instuction manual. Another thing is that enemies are constantly trying to beat you up and you can fend them off (not kill for some reason) with a lightsaber.

Space Shooter Levels: *

Bleach! Horrible graphics, bad control, and will someone PLEASE tell me what exactly I’m supposed to be hitting? This is sort of like a Star Fox game, only with bad control, grainy graphics, and insane difficulty. You use the control pad to move up, down, left, and right. I just don’t see why you still hit stuff even when it’s at the top and you’re at the bottom. Ugh…

Difficulty: ***** (Rated on how hard the game is, not quality of difficulty.)

If you like games that are hard because of bad control, tough bad guys even on the first level with easy difficuly setting, and a health meater that ticks down to nothing within the first few minutes of a fight, you’ll love this game.

Recommendation: For rabid fans only.

Overall: **

Wow! My first low-quality game Review! Of course, that’s nothing to be proud of. (I think I’ve heard that before…) You want a good Star Wars game? Get Rogue Squadron.

THE GOOD
+ They have some pictures from the movie
+ The flight levels seem like they’re from some sort of Star Fox game…

THE BAD
- Lousy graphics
- I’d rather put my head in a trash can then bang the can with a spoon than listen to this game’s music
- Will someone please take out the flying levels?!
- Give me more side-scrolling levels
