Pokémon Red Review

Scoring Note: This, of course, will be graded on 1-10.

Storyline: You become a Pokémon Trainer along with your rival to try to become a Pokémon Master. You've got to catch other Pokémon and battle them against other Trainers and Gym Leaders until you win all eight gym badges and can challenge the Elite Four. Oh, and you've got to stop Team Rocket a few times and also fight your rival a lot too.

System: Gameboy.

Rating: E for Everyone. Yeesh there's nothing bad about it. The only thing that's violent is that you play non-graphic battles.

Release date: 1998. I think it was 1997 in Japan.

Graphics: 7

They're alright, but the Pokémon look a lot better in Yellow and Gold and Silver and Crystal. But then again the pictures are pretty small and it does seem funny to see the trainers on the screen really small!

Music: 9

Creative! I love all of them, from Pallet Town to SS Anne to Indigo Plateau, the music is great! They even use it in the TV show!

Size: 7

Big game. It takes a LONG time to defeat the Gym Leaders the first time and even longer to catch all the Pokémon. There's 151 and yes it can be done.

Secrets: 8

There's a lot of them, like when the Pokémon evolve and learn attacks and what the other trainers' Pokémon are. Even Pokémon 151 is a secret!

Difficulty: 7

This is one hard game. Mostly it's the battles. You've got to decide which attack you'll use and where to go and how to get there.

Replay Factor: 9

Boy oh boy! Once you start you can't stop! You'll want to play forever until you catch maybe Chansey in the Safari Zone, or win the Soul Bade in Fuchsia City.

Fun Factor!: 10 This is a really fun game even though it's hard and the graphics aren't the greatest.

Recommendation:

Buy this game! It's great, fun, and challenging. Plus it's an original.
