Pokemon Pearl Review

By Nintenbro0

Welcome to my newest Review! I will be reviewing Pokemon Pearl today! This game’s had me hooked and playing the game for 24 hours! (The DS counts the time.) I will review from 0 to 5 stars. Let’s get started!

System: DS
Players: 1
Rating: E
Price: $30

Story
Okay, your character wakes up in bed and goes downstairs. He walks outside and the rival character shows up and tells you to come to the lakefront with him. You guys do and go in tall grass. Suddenly you’re attacked by Pokemon and must use a Chimchar, Piplup, or Turtwig to fight them off! This begins your Pokemon adventure!

Graphics *****
Okay, these graphics may not be 3D, but I liked them. They had a very strange touch to them, like the water and the trees. It was a pixilated game, so you can imagine how the graphics look.

The Pokemon looked very good, like Palkia, Bidoof, Pikachu, Totterra, and many more. They had such detail to them, like how Palkia's red stripes are visible, and Piplup’s beak is shaped correctly. I think they did a very good job on these graphics!

Sound ****
There was lots of music in this game! Every town had a different kind of music! Like an old mining town had western music, or the simple flowery music in Auroma Town! Plus the boss music was very cool, and the underground. Though the normal battle music did get on my nerves sometimes. But one thing is, there wasn't many catchy tunes. I mean, I can remember the normal battle music and the western, but that’s about it.

The sound effects weren't the best, but they were not bad. They had water splashing, rocks breaking, bike pedaling, and more! It was normal, average sound. Nothing too special.

The voices hit a bump, though. No, not the human voices. They were fine. But the Pokemon voices. Ponyta, Geodude, Zubat, Steelix, and a couple others were so annoying that I turned off my sound when I battled them. Bidoof, Magikarp, and most of the rest were fine. But you battle Geodude a lot! And it was annoying! Though most the voices were okay.

Difficulty ****
The difficulty in this game was just about as good as you can get it. Okay, so they have easy, medium, and hard parts, but they made it so the hard ones aren't a huge challenge. An easy part was defeating a Bidoof, medium was like defeating gym leader 3, and hard was like catching a Rotom. But they lay it out so nice and perfectly that I think it worked really well.

The majority of this game was easy, which is good for me! I think the difficulty was almost perfect.

Replayability *****
This game was so fun I'd play it a second time! It was very good and made you want to catch all the Pokemon! I was even thinking of getting Diamond and playing that too, just because I loved this game so much!

This game makes you want to play it a lot!

Characters *****
Wow, this game is getting a really good score! Anyway, this game consisted of over 500 characters, allowing some 400 to be Pokemon, and the rest humans! But there were a lot of trainers too! I'll start on Pokemon. Pokemon are classified under a certain grouping: water, fire, grass, rock, psychic, dark, metal, normal, or electric. There were plenty of great Pokemon in this game, with a lot of differences and variety. Like Monferno, a flaming monkey, or Ghastly, a purple floating ball with a face!

The Pokemon also included some very interesting and weird characters, like Palkia, Heatran, and Regigagas!

I think what almost lowered this score is there were a lot of ugly Team Galactic people.

Controls ***
This game had normal, average controls. Walking was pretty easy. But bike riding was hard to control. Everything seemed good, though.

Levels ****
All the places in this game were well designed, cool themed fun places. I really liked how every place had its own music too. The only place I didn't like was an old mining town. It was really weird. Fuego Ironworks was really cool too! It was like being in a factory, only with a puzzle. Floaroma Town was cool too. So overall, there were pretty good places.

Items *****
Items were always useful in gyms, and in battles. Plus you had evolution stones. There were also potions that would revive your Pokemon or wake them up! Plus there are about 10 kinds of Pokemon balls!

Items could really come in handy, like the Pokedex! It tells what Pokemon are and how they look and sound! This game had plenty of good items!

Fun Factor! ****
I had a lot of fun with this game! It was always fun battling Pokemon and exploring old buildings! I loved trying to catch them all! This game is very fun!
Another really fun thing was battling hard Pokemon like Palkia, Heatran, and many others!

Gameplay ****
Throughout this game you'll be battling Pokemon and trying to figure out what’s up with Team Galactic. Plus you'll be earning gym badges along the way, and fighting trainers. Plus you can even enter your Pokemon in contests! Super cool!

Recommendation
This game was really fun and a great game. Being the first Pokemon game I'd ever got, I really had low expectations for it, but I got onboard and instantly loved it! It got 43/50! That is really good. It is even worth a Developers System!
