Paper Mario for the Brain-Dead

Koopa Koot

Koopa Koot, who lives in the eastern-most house in Koopa Village, doesn't get around very well. In fact, it is so hard for him to get out of his house that he is always asking passersby to do favors for him. Most people have become reluctant to help this old Koopa, but Mario, the good samaritan, is ever so happy to help. Fortunately for Mario, once in a while Koopa Koot will actually cough up a decent prize.

Koopa Koot's errands are all optional, but must be performed in order if they are to be done at all. They may be done at any time during the game, but Koopa Koot will only ask several favors each Chapter. This guide lists all the favors in order, and divides them up by the earliest Chapter in which Kooper Koot may ask you to perform them, if you have done all previous tasks.

Chapter One

1. Your Task: Retrieve a Book from Kolorado.
How to do it: Go to Kolorado's house, the western-most house in the second area of Koopa Village. Speak to his wife and ask for the book. She will give it to you. Then give it to Koopa Koot.
Your Reward: One coin. Hey, it was a quick errand anyway.
Special Note: Koopa Koot will not ask this favor until Kooper has joined your party.

2. Your Task: Give Koopa Koot a Sleepy Sheep.
How to do it: If you have a Sleepy Sheep in your inventory, you won't even have to leave Koopa Koot's house; just talk to him again and hand it over. If you don't have one on you, but have one in the stores' storage system, retrieve one. Otherwise, you will need to go buy a Sleepy Sheep from the shop. The closest shop is probably the first shop in Toad Town, but if you are deep into the game you may find a closer and cheaper store.
Your Reward: One coin. And, the Silver Credit!

Chapter Two

3. Your Task: Retrieve the Tape from Goompa.
How to do it: Return to Goomba Village and speak to Goompa in the house. He will give you the Tape. Then go back to Koopa Village and give it to Koopa Koot.
Your Reward: One coin. You made a profit!
Bonus: The viranda behind Goompa's house has been rebuilt. Check it for a Shooting Star while you're in town.

4. Your Task: Get Koopa Koot some Koopa Tea.
How to do it: Find a Koopa Leaf behind the bushes in Koopa Village. Bring it to Tayce T. in Toad Town, and she will turn it into Koopa Tea. Bring it back to Koopa Koot.
Your Reward: Three Star Pieces!!!

5. Your Task: Get Luigi's Autograph.
How to do it: Talk to Luigi and he'll give it to you. You can get to Luigi through the warp pipe near the main gate in Toad Town. Bring the Autograph to Koopa Koot.
Your Reward: One coin. Well, what did you expect? It's only Luigi, after all.

Chapter Three

6. Your Task: Find Koopa Koot's Wallet.
How to do it: Inspect the east-most bush in the west area of town to recover the Wallet. Then just bring it back to Koopa Koot.
Your Reward: One coin. C'mon, it was even easier than his first favor.

7. Your Task: Bring Koopa Koot a Tasty Tonic.
How to do it: Go to the second shop in Toad Town and buy a Tasty Tonic. Alternatively, go to the oasis in Dry Dry Desert and pick up a Lemon or Lime, then give it to Tayce T.
Your Reward: One coin. Ok, maybe he's being cheap this time. He should at least compensate you if you bought the Tasty Tonic.

8. Your Task: Fetch Merluvlee's Autograph.
How to do it: Make your way to Merluvlee's house near Shooting Star Summit and speak to her from right next to her, not across the table. She will tell you to find Merlee in Dry Dry Outpost. Get yourself there, and find Merlee in the alley leading north, just east of the Toad House. Bring the Crystal Ball she gives you back to Merluvlee to receive her Autograph.
Your Reward: Three Star Pieces!!! See, it was worth it.

Chapter Four

9. Your Task: Report the news.
How to do it: Go to Toad Town and read the billboard in front of Merlon's house, front and back. Return to Koopa Koot and speak to him to complete the task.
Your Reward: One coin. Sounds fair, since at the end you never actually speak the news to him. He must be psychic or something.

10. Your Task: Save Koopa Koot with a Life Shroom.
How to do it: Warp to Boo's Mansion and buy a Life Shroom at the shop in the basement for fifty coins. Or, if you want to save some cash and have found the Cookbook, wait until you've given Tayce T. the Cookbook. Bring her a Mushroom (three coins in Dry Dry Outpost) and two Koopa Leaves (behind bushes in Koopa Village). Mix the Mushroom and one of the Koopa Leaves, then mix the resulting Volt Shroom with the second Koopa Leaf, and you'll have yourself a Life Shroom. You may want to do that for yourself, too.
Your Reward: One coin. And, the Gold Credit! I might have expected more for saving the guy's life, but I guess it will do.

11. Your Task: Bring back a Nutty Cake.
How to do it: Get a Goomnut from the tree in Goomba Village. Bring it to Tayce T. and she'll cook up a Nutty Cake to bring back.
Your Reward: One coin. Must be allergic to nuts.
Special Note: Unless you have a Nutty Cake saved up from before, you won't be able to complete this task until you have recovered Tayce T.'s Frying Pan from the Shy Guys.

Chapter Five

12. Your Task: Make the neighbors shut up.
How to do it: Go to Kooper's house next door and speak to the west Bob-omb while Bombette is your active partner. Then return to Koopa Koot.
Your Reward: Three Star Pieces!!! Not bad, considering you didn't even have to leave town.

13. Your Task: Retrieve the Old Photo.
How to do it: Make your way to Boo's Mansion and talk to Franky, the first Boo past the front doors.
Your Reward: One coin. I guess Franky ruined the picture.

14. Your Task: Cook up some Koopasta.
How to do it: Get a Koopa Leaf from behind a bush, then travel to Dry Dry Outpost and buy a Dried Pasta in the store. Give them both to Tayce T.
Your Reward: One coin. A bit cheap for Tayce T.'s food, not to mention that Dried Pasta cost three coins. Still, he did just give you those Star Pieces.

Chapter Six

15. Your Task: Locate Koopa Koot's Glasses.
How to do it: Inspect the second bush east of the exit from Koopa Village to recover the Glasses.
Your Reward: One coin. I mean, it's not like he needs them or anything.

16. Your Task: Find a Lime.
How to do it: Visit the oasis south of Dry Dry Outpost and hit the tree to the east.
Your Reward: Three Star Pieces!!! Not bad for the work involved.

17. Your Task: Make a Kooky Cookie.
How to do it: Get a Koopa Leaf from behind a bush, then combine it with a Cake Mix, which can be found on the west side of Blue Station in the Toy Box.
Your Reward: One coin. Well, all the ingredients are free.

Chapter Seven

18. Your Task: Retrieve Koopa Koot's Package.
How to do it: Go to Gusty Gulch and speak to the second Boo west of the entrance. You'll need to leave the panel, then return and speak to the Boo again to receive the package.
Your Reward: One coin. Must've been cheapo express.

19. Your Task: Collect a Coconut.
How to do it: Return to Yoshi Village and Hammer the tree just west of the exit in the east panel of the village to get a Coconut.
Your Reward: One coin. Hey, Coconuts grow on trees, coins don't.

20. Your Task: Find the ancient Red Jar.
How to do it: Make your way to the store in Dry Dry Outpost and buy a Dusty Hammer, a Dried Pasta, a second Dusty Hammer, and a Dried Shroom, in that order.
Your Reward: Three Star Pieces!!! Like Kolorado, Koopa Koot understands the true value of ancient relics such as this.

Chapter Eight

21. Your Task: Defeat Bowser and take back the Star Rod.
How to do it: I don't want to write it all over again, so just check out the walkthrough.
Your Reward: Save the world, rescue the princess, yada yada. That's great and all, but for so much work I was hoping for more. There aren't even any Star Pieces in Bowser's Castle.
